Saudi Arabia Set to Witness a Cloud Revolution by 2030

Saudi Arabia is one of the first countries in the Middle East to experience considerable growth in the adoption of cloud computing. The sector's development is expected to double over the next five years, adding USD13.3 billion to the GDP, according to a plan released by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). The Saudi government determined to deploy the National Transformation Program (Saudi Vision 2030) to digitally empower all sectors of the economy, including banking, finance, government, manufacturing, and healthcare, as the world becomes increasingly dominated by digital technologies. Additionally, e-government services are used to save costs, upgrade infrastructure, speed up operations, and enhance overall performance in the public sector.

Additionally, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has adopted the cloud-first policy. This plan attempts to expedite the shift of government organizations from traditional IT systems to cloud-based ones. Furthermore, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with a domicile in Saudi Arabia have already started embracing cloud computing to serve their technology demands.  More than a quarter of corporations intend to employ a mix of legacy systems, public clouds, and on-premise/dedicated private clouds.

The country's cloud computing market would grow as a result of these endeavors. Saudi Arabia will develop into a hub for innovation in the region. The kingdom has already experienced the quick adoption of digital transformation projects over the past few years, as international businesses have entered the market.

Why the rapid adoption of the cloud?

The answer is simple; costs!

The balance is shifting more and more in favor of independent data center operators due to high upfront expenditures, increased electricity prices, maintenance-related problems, security concerns, and high real estate costs. Along with rising demand for computing and storage capacity in Saudi, businesses are increasingly choosing to simplify their enterprise ICT environments. The market for cloud services in Saudi Arabia has had phenomenal growth as a result of an increase in online activity, particularly in all workplace systems, as well as investments and new market participants. Oracle and STC (Saudi Telecom Company) are the most well-known cloud service providers in the Saudi Arabian market for cloud services, which is relatively consolidated and includes a variety of local and international cloud service providers.

The cloud was a major factor in more than 70% of businesses that accelerated their digital transformation goals by at least a year. According to market research reports, the Saudi Arabian Cloud Services Market was estimated to be worth USD 2554.20 million in 2021 and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 16.70% from 2022 to 2027. The expansion of IoT and digitization, as well as a number of forthcoming projects by Google, Oracle, and Alibaba, are what are driving the demand for cloud services.

Given how rapidly cloud technology is developing, it will be interesting to watch what other factors Saudi Arabia's cloud sector will be fueled by. The upcoming wave of cloud adoption in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be revealed at What is World Cloud & Data Center Show, an event by Trescon. The Kingdom powered by cloud and data centers is the primary focus of the summit. A gathering of top tech executives from across the world to showcase and discuss the fundamental data strategies and technological foundations that will power the next phase of cloud adoption.
